How Soothing Music Can Better Your Life

I always like to try new things and this week I dived right into a series of relaxing sleep music, healing music and soothing music to see how these sounds actually affected my weekly routine. To be honest I’ve always thought the whole relaxing medolodies and meditation sounds was a load of rubbish, however this week I got to see for myself, just how beneficial this is.

Here are some of the benefits I found.This was inspired by Steve Gordon who runs Sequoia records, a label dedicated to finding soothing sounds along with Binaural Beats Meditation, who was also a great source of these melodies.

1. Reduce Stress

Listening to relaxing music actually, relaxes your entire body and begins to elevate your mind. This reduces stress significantly, and it has been said that connects you with your ‘inner peace’. This, in turn, will improve your health and help you get an amazing nights sleep.

2. Works as a Cue for Better and Deeper Meditation 

I never really got into meditation until now. It was something that was just about breathing to calm down, however, that is just scraping the surface. It’s really about quieting the mind and literally letting go of everything. A study shows that listening to sounds of nature can work as an emotional cue to help with meditation.

3. Yoga Which Is More Fulfilling and Better for the Soul 

I’m in the same boat with Yoga as I am to meditation, it’s completely new to me. I’m a psychology student, not a guru, so please take what I say with a grain of salt. From someone who just started yoga, it is actually amazing! What is interesting as when playing relaxed melodies while doing yoga, it helps your mental chatter begin to fade away, and each pose seems to become easier to reach. I personally think that adding this extra element has made it a more enjoyable and better experience.

4. Helps to Relax Your Body 

Listening to healing music can actually really help relax your mind and body. I tried it the other day while having a bath (yes, boys enjoy baths) and I just got lost in the tranquillity. Make sure the next downtime you spend, listen to some relaxing melodies or just Google ‘healing music’ or type it in Spotify.


5. Healing and Renewal

It has been proven that when the body and mind are relaxed, the body’s natural ability to heal itself is greatly enhanced. By listening to deeply relaxing music, you can assist your body to release its healing powers. Studies have shown positive benefits when patients listen to relaxing music before and after surgery and in hospice settings.

6. Balance and Control of Your Life 

Life is hard, life is busy. Sometimes it feels like everything is out of whack and this is when it is absolutely essential to have some soothing sounds to help you drown out the sounds of the busy city and just relax.

So there you have it, reasons why relaxing music can actually benefit and improve your life. Next week I will be doing more of an in-depth review of how music can help the mind. This will probably be apart of a new series I am working on.
